

Ballet Folklorico Orgullo Mestizo was founded on April 21, 1998. The project started as a small group, with the vision of making it a large and prestigious dance company. The project was started under the direction of three very talented and devoted directors: Samuel Gonzalez, Isabel Diaz, and one that has left the group. As time went by, the company started growing and has made it as one of the highlights of the city of Fontana. The company has had many performances including the Mariachi Festival of Rialto in 1998. Orgullo Mestizo was also one of the highlights at the International Festival of Fontana in 1998, 1999, and 2001. In addition to the events that Orgullo Mestizo has participated in our city is the Fontana Days parades. In the month of December in 2000, Ballet Folklorico Orgullo Mestizo was honored to receive the key to the "City of entertainment"-Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, with Ballet Folklorico Tepuchcalli from Las Vegas, Orgullo Mestizo showcased a concert at the well-known C2K Theater at the Venetian, Hotel and Casino. The following year was a great year for the group. Orgullo Mestizo had the opportunity to compete in the National Folklorico Competition in Santa Ana, California; bringing home 3 first-place and 2 second-place trophies. In 2002 Ballet Folklorico Orgullo Mestizo represented Mexico in the national convention "Asociacion Nacional De Grupos Folkloricos" (ANGF). Another competition took place in the city of Fontana, CA. Once again, Orgullo Mestizo entered six categories and won all six of them with 4 first-place and 2 second-place trophies. In July of this year, Ballet Folklorico Orgullo Mestizo made a trademark in history by receiving a proclamation from the state of Nevada making July 26th 2002 the official day of Orgullo Mestizo in Las Vegas.
In 2003 Orgullo Mestizo participated in the Mariachi festival of the Antelope Valley. In 2004 the company entered the Mac Mariachi competitions winning first place in both the preliminaries and the finals. This victory gave Orgullo Mestizo the opportunity to participate in the world-known Fiesta Broadway Festival (2004) in Los Angeles, CA. To end the year, the company participated in the Challenge USA '04 Competition and received third place. In 2005 Orgullo Mestizo competed in the Grandeza Mexicana "Esencia De Mexico" competition, receiving 2nd place. Recently, in the month of October, Orgullo Mestizo competed in the ChallengeUSA competition the begginer group received a 3rd place and the advanced group received 1st place, advancing them to the finals in 2006. In 2006 Orgullo Mestizo was crowned Challenge USA National Champion, and in 2007, Competed again to defend their title, and once again was crown 2007 Challenge USA National Champions.
At this point in time, Orgullo Mestizo's director teaches three classes in the city of Fontana at the Jessie Turner Community Center. These classes are made up of over 90 students that are ready to learn about our beautiful Mexico and its culture. Every year Ballet Folklorico Orgullo Mestizo showcases a concert to display the creative and artistic work that brings dances from all over Mexico back to life. The Artistic Director's main goal is to entertain and is proud to have the opportunity to display his work to the thousands of people who can appreciate such expressive movements of dance.
